Food Safety Lawyer Elliot Olsen Speaks at Produce Association Event
Food safety lawyer Elliot Olsen once again spoke at this year’s Produce Marketing Association Food Safety Symposium in Ellensburn, Washington on May 18, 2010. The Produce Marketing Association (PMA) was founded in 1949 with a mission “to connect, to inform, and deliver business solutions that enhance members’ prosperity.” Food safety is part of that mission, and it is part of Pritzker Olsen law firm’s mission as well.
The symposium is designed for “senior-level executives from throughout the fresh produce supply chain, including grower-shippers, suppliers, retailers and food service operators and distributors.” It is an opportunity for produce industry leaders to stop and examine unknown issues that can compromise the quality and safety of their products.
“In a time when foodborne illness outbreaks are being reported in connection with anything from peanuts to lettuce to sprouts–this kind of industry education has never been more important,” Olsen said. “Although we work to obtain compensation for victims of foodborne illness, no settlement or verdict can ever undo the suffering our clients experience. Therefore, prevention is the most important goal.“
Olsen’s presentation focused on how produce growers and distributors can avoid a foodborne illness lawsuit in the first place by showing them how lawyers prove a foodborne illness lawsuit, and stressing the importance of testing products for pathogens like E. coli, Salmonella, Listeria and other harmful bacteria that can seriously injure consumers.
