Bicycle Accident Victim Retains Pritzker Olsen In Arm Fracture Injury Case
In a new bicycle accident injury case, the bike injury lawyers at Pritzker Olsen attorneys have been retained by a bike accident victim who suffered a fractured arm in a bicycle-motorist collision. The scenario of the accident is all too common to attorneys like ours, who represent many bike accident victims. The cyclist approached the intersection and the car driving toward her took a left-hand turn and failed to yield. The rear left side of our client’s bike was struck by the motorist.
A motorist failing to yield to a cyclist is a common reason for these types of accidents to occur–about 30 percent of car-bicycle accidents happen this way, the City of Minneapolis reports. The city advises that drivers watch out for bikes when making right or lefthand turns, looking out especially for rear-approaching cyclists. Drivers should remember to allow at least three feet of space between themselves and bicyclists. Also, speeding motorists are especially dangerous to cyclists, as the biker’s chance of survival in a collision with a car are much greater if the car is traveling at a lower speed.
Safe roads are a shared responsibility, and therefore bikers have rules they should follow as well. They should be sure to wear lights or reflective clothing at night, or both. They should NEVER travel on the wrong side of the street or in the wrong direction–they should follow the flow of traffic as the cars do. More safety tips for bikers and motorists can be found on the City of Minneapolis’ web site.
