Minnesota Nurse Malpractice Lawyer
Pritzker Olsen attorneys are investigating an outbreak of suspicious infections at a St. Cloud hospital. The pathogens have been identified as Ochrobactrum anthropi and Klebsiella oxytoca, which are quite rare in humans. To date, 23 patients have been infected with a bacterial infection. A hospital spokeswoman reported that a nurse may have contaminated medication vials while diverting pain medication for her own use. The hospital may bear liability in this type of case.

Hospital Staph Infection: MRSA
One of the infections that can be contracted while in the hospital is Methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus, commonly referred to as MRSA. It is a type of bacteria that is resistant to certain antibiotics. These antibiotics include methicillin, oxacillin, penicillin and amoxicillin. Because of the lack of effective treatment for MRSA, the risk of serious illness, amputation and death is greater with MRSA infection than with other Staphylococcus aureus infections.
Staph Septic Arthritis
Another serious infection is a bacterial arthritis known as Staph Septic arthritis or reactive arthritis. Reactive arthritis involves an infection in joint spaces in the body. The infection can be caused by a number of microorganisms including bacteria (most often staphylococcus aureus). These organisms enter the joint in a variety of ways including through or as a consequence of surgical incisions. Approximately 20,000 cases occur in the United States each year. The knee joint is the most common location for this infection.
Septic arthritis is a true medical emergency. Without (and sometimes even with) prompt diagnosis and treatment, the infection will damage articular cartilage and can lead to blood-borne infections that can result in serious injury and even death.

Prescription Error Lawsuit Attorney
In the video below, Attorney Brendan Flaherty discusses prescription error cases. Our Minnesota lawyers represent victims of medication errors throughout the United States.
Prescription Error Lawsuit and Prevention Information
Prescription errors are most likely to happen when a patient is:
- Starting a new medication
- Changing from one medication to another or adding a medication to his or her medication regimen
- Adjusting the dosage of a medication
At these times, it’s especially important to check that the medication you receive from the pharmacy is the SAME medication your doctor prescribed. Pharmacists can make mistakes. It is also important to read the description of the pills, typically located on the label of the medication container. It will describe the size, color and shape of the pill and also indicate what, if any, numbering or lettering is on the pill. Match this description with what is inside the bottle. If they don’t match, do not take the medication and bring it back to the pharmacy to correct the mistake.
Medication errors can result in serious injury and even death. The lawyers at Pritzker Olsen attorneys have recently settled a medication error wrongful death case in which the victim ingested medication that was ten times stronger than it should have been. A skilled prescription error lawyer can help victims recover money to pay for medical expenses, funeral expenses, and other damages.
Pharmacy Malpractice Case Involving Wrong Dose Highlights Need for Regulation
By Attorney Fred Pritzker
I recently settled a wrongful death case involving a compounding pharmacy. An elderly woman died a horrible death within twenty-fours after ingesting a medication produced by a compounding pharmacy that was eight to ten times stronger than was prescribed by her doctor and labeled on the medication vial. The overly-strong medication was the result of a simple weighing and labeling error by the compounding pharmacy that would have easily been prevented/detected if rudimentary quality control measures were followed.
