Steak Recall Related to Three Minnesota E. coli Cases

Applebee’s and Olive Garden also named in steak E. coli recall

Through investigating a Dec. 24 recall of 250,000 pounds of steak, medallions and other beef products from National Steak and Poultry(NSP), Pritzker Olsen attorneys have learned that the E. coli O157:H7 outbreak associated with this recall has sickened 21 in 16 states. Three of those cases are in Minnesota; nine have required hospitalization and at least one has resulted in hemolytic uremic syndrome (HUS), according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC).

National food safety lawyer Fred Pritzker has called upon beef suppliers such as NSP, the restaurants they supply and food safety officials to disclose a list of ALL restaurants that may have received potentially contaminated steaks. “This recall happened two weeks ago, and that’s far too late for those who’ve gotten sick and deserve to know where and why,” Pritzker said.

Restaurants originally involved in the outbreak included Moe’s Southwest Grill, Carino’s Italian and 54th Street Grill & Bar, (operated by KRM, Inc.) according to a press release from National Steak and Poultry. However, reports yesterday indicated Applebee’s and Olive Garden also have received the potentially contaminated meat.
